Andrew Robotham

Andy has a particular interest in resolving matters amicably and outside of court wherever possible. He firmly believes that clients should keep an open mind to all the options available—such as private Financial Dispute Resolution, mediation, and arbitration—rather than relying solely on a court-driven process, which is often expensive, time-consuming, and unpredictable. In his view, non-court dispute resolution offers clients a faster, less adversarial, and more cost-effective route, with the added benefit of maintaining greater control over the process. Andy consistently applies collaborative principles in his practice, especially where children are involved. He has actively promoted private FDRs as a more constructive and less daunting approach to settlement.

Andy is known for his sympathetic and methodical approach, working tirelessly to help clients navigate emotionally challenging times and achieve positive outcomes. He believes in helping families move forward, not dwell on past conflict, and is committed to finding solutions that support future relationships.

A Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives since 1996 and a Resolution-accredited specialist in Domestic Violence, Private Children Law matters and Cohabitation, Andy has long promoted the Resolution ethos of constructive, non-confrontational family law. His accreditation led to nationwide referrals and valuable experience across a wide range of cases.

Andy has also been recognised in the Legal 500, where he was named a Recommended Lawyer for Family Law in the East Midlands. The publication praised him as having “numerous qualities” and noted his ability to combine empathy with the professionalism clients need.

Committed to making legal services accessible, Andy spent many years volunteering with the Citizens Advice Bureau and acted as a Director and Trustee of the Coalville and District branch. He also undertook specialist training with Sight Support Derbyshire to support blind and partially sighted individuals through divorce and family law issues.

Andy qualified as a legal executive in June 1995, and joined Woolley & Co from a firm in Ashby de la Zouch, where he was head of department in November 2008.

Away from work, Andy is very fond of the outdoors, walking his dogs and caring for horses as well as being a keen motorsport and football fan, and a self-confessed petrolhead.
