Abby Smith

She is an accredited specialist with Resolution and a qualified family mediator, known for her calm, friendly and highly organised approach. Clients often praise her ability to explain complex legal matters in a clear and practical way, empowering them to make informed decisions at what is often an emotionally charged time.

Abby has particular expertise in resolving financial disputes, from modest assets to high-net-worth cases involving property portfolios, pensions and business interests. She is also highly experienced in helping parents resolve children issues, including international relocation cases and matters involving wider family members such as grandparents.

A strong advocate for non-court dispute resolution (NCDR), Abby believes this approach offers a quicker, more cost-effective and far less stressful way for separating couples to resolve their disputes. As a trained mediator, she applies her skills in solicitor-led negotiations, round table meetings, private Finance Dispute Resolution hearings and arbitration, as well as through early referrals to mediation. Abby works closely with clients to “reality test” potential outcomes and anchor discussions around what a court is likely to do – helping keep matters focused and grounded in practical reality.

Abby believes in an approach to negotiation that is pragmatic, efficient and mindful of future relationships, especially where children are involved. She works hard to encourage amicable solutions that reduce emotional tension both now and, in the years, ahead.

Abby qualified as a legal executive in October 2003, and joined Woolley & Co in 2014 from a national law firm. When not working, Abby enjoys spending time with her family and friends, countryside walks with the family dog and travelling.
